Burundi Natural Gakenke

Still relatively new to the specialty coffee market, the small East African nation of Burundi is now delivering coffees with big flavor.

This natural-processed selection comes to us from the Gakenke Coffee Washing Station, located in the northwestern province of Kayanza near the Rwandan border. One of 13 washing stations operated by Greenco, a specialty coffee exporter in Burundi, Gakenke receives coffee cherries from more than 2,680 small-scale farmers in the surrounding area.

Through a partnership with the Kahawatu Foundation, Greenco supports education, employment, and agricultural extension projects for the producers who deliver to their washing stations.

If you like fruit-forward coffees, this one delivers with prominent notes of blueberry as well as dark chocolate and grapefruit peel, enhanced by a silky body. Enjoy!
